More pomegranate excitement...

Pomegranate painting
Literally...
Working those fine motor skills to get the seeds out, examine them, and count them.
One in the bowl, one in the mouth, one in the bowl, one in the mouth- patterning...

Overheard in our classroom...

"Hashem (G-d) wears special glasses so He can see everything!" -Elan

"Mmmmm... tastes yummy like grilled chicken!" -DJ

"It's good for you (the pomegranate). It makes you go kacky!" -Aviv

"Where did you get this pomegranate- Norway or something?" -Sasha

"Are you sure it's from Israel? When I went I didn't see any pomegranate trees there- just stones." -Doran

During circle time on Tuesday, Morah Chevee took out a circular object wrapped in aluminum foil. We passed it around to smell it, touch it, listen to it, and ultimately guess what it was hiding inside.

Morah Chevee: "What do you think it might be?"
Doran: "A cookie thingy."
DJ: "A baseball."
Aviv: "A round challah."
Elan: "A tennis ball."
Menachem: "Can't be a tennis ball 'cuz it has a crunchy thing on top"
Sasha: "Mmmm, smells like a treat!"
Jonah: "A baby giraffe."

IT'S A POMEGRANATE!!!

THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT...

The children listening to the story of how the world was created... "Once upon a time there was just Hashem in the world. He felt kind of lonely because it was just Him and nothing else. He decided to create many things. The first thing he created was dark and light. But He was still lonely. Next He created the heaven and sea but He was still lonely. Then He created the flowers and trees, sun, moon, stars, animals, and even people but He still felt a little uncomfortable in this big, beautiful world that He created. Do you know what makes Him sooo happy? Yep, you guessed it- mitzvahs make Him feel so happy in this world- when we use all the special things in this big, big world the mitzvah way.

"There's a bumble bee. No, a deer. Actually it's a spider." -Aviv

"What? How can there be flowers in the water?"-Elan
"Wow! So many flowers, SO pretty!"- Jonah

The world complete
"We can't see Hashem in these pictures because you can't take pictures of Him." -Menachem
"Hashem is invisible! Like in Hebrew School they have little bottles of invisible ink." -Shneur

BEFORE
AFTER
Jonah tracing the letters of his name on the light box.
Shneur building "The Leaning Tower" with a gate around it in case it falls.
Clean up, clean up, everybody, everywhere. Clean up, clean up, everybody do your share.
Little torah, little torah let me hold you tight at circle time!
When introducing the sound of the shofar, we played a game called "Guess the sound". We listened to the different sounds that came out of the computer and tried to identify them. We heard lots of different animal sounds and of course, our very favorite construction sounds!

FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL - A GREAT SUCCESS!!

Sasha's factory boat that's called "Stinky".
"Play dough is tough stuff!"
The rain did our painting for us. We put powdered tempera paint on paper and held it up in the rain to see what would happen... When we finished we looked down to see not only had it painted a picture for us, it also made a "Rainbow puddle"!

Yisroel: "Baby, want sossy? Ok."
Elan:" It makes him shhhhh because it's time to go to sleep."

Dear Parents,
What an excellent first week of school we had! The 2's are getting used to their new environment and the 3/4's are getting used to their new schedule. Below you will find some pictures of our first week including some overheard conversations. Enjoy them and keep checking our blog for updates.
